"We are the music-makers, And we are the dreamers of dreams, Wandering by long sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams."
- A. O'Shaughnessy, The Music Makers
"I said I know...it's only rock and roll, but I like it, I like it, yes I do."
- The Rolling Stones, It's Only Rock And Roll
What kind of music do you associate with Seattle? If the question was asked anytime in the late '60s through the '70s, rock music and Jimi Hendrix would be a common answer. In the early '90s, Seattle became associated with "grunge" rock.
As popular as rock is, Seattle is also home to a wide variety of musical genres: Punk, funk, blues, classical, opera, jazz, reggae, country (that's Lefty Frizzell in the picture above), alt country, folk, bluegrass, Irish, swing, R and B, soul, salsa, electronica, house, jungle, world, etc., etc., etc. You can literally find almost every kind of music available being performed and recorded around the Puget Sound.
