"The Emerald City" The nickname is well-earned. Seattle is known for its abundant natural beauty. You don't need to travel outside the city to enjoy it. There are hundreds of parks in the greater
metropolitan area. They range from small one-or-two block green spaces to major areas such as Magnuson Park on Lake Washington, the Woodland Park Zoo, Green Lake, and Discovery Park on the Puget Sound.
GREEN LAKE 7201 East Green Lake Dr N "Green Lake is one of Seattle’s most beloved parks. Its expanse of water and green space in the center of a dense urban neighborhood draws thousands of people daily from all over the city. The park serves as a natural preserve for hundreds of species of trees and plants, as well as numerous birds and waterfowl. The newly reconstructed 2.8-mile path around the lake provides a perfect recreational spot for runners, bikers, skaters and walkers and the adjacent 3.2 mile trail is ideal for joggers. Many others use the athletic fields or visit the park for boating, picnics and swimming." CARKEEK PARK 950 NW Carkeek Park Rd "Carkeek Park is a 223-acre area of forest, streams, meadows, and saltwater beach located in northwest Seattle. It is the watershed for Pipers Creek and its tributaries and the site of a salmon restoration project that was begun in 1980. Two gardens, the Salmon Friendly Garden and the Backyard Habitat Garden demonstrate use of native plants. This popular park offers extraordinary views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Years of hard work by neighbors and volunteers have brought salmon back to Pipers Creek in Carkeek Park." RAVENNA PARK 5520 Ravenna Ave NE "Ravenna Park is a ˝ mile wooded ravine which connects two picnic areas just north of the University District, and is a popular spot for hiking, jogging and picnics. Park features include a play area for children, a wading pool, ballfield, trails, and tennis courts."
